A financing option available for first responders is the Down Payment Assistance (DPA), which, as the name suggests, provides down payment assistance so you can give some or all the down payment and/or closing costs to buy a home. This is usually offered in the form of a grant equal to 2% or 3.5% of the total cost. It is foregone in its entirety at the close of escrow for individual professionals such as police officers, teachers, and firefighters. Now, effective immediately, the scope of DPA has been expanded to include other professional occupations in medicine and healthcare. Doctors, nurses and also the clerical and administrative staff of healthcare facilities can also avail financing through DPA.
